AWARDS PROGRAM CELEBRATES
ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE
On Saturday, September 12, Valley Forward and SRP will recognize outstanding contributions to the physical environment of our Valley communities at the 29th annual Environmental Excellence Awards. This year’s program is proving to be an early success as the Call for Entries generated a record-breaking number of entries.

The event will be held at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa and is Arizona’s oldest and largest competition of its kind. The program recognizes significant contributions to the environment in: buildings and structures, site development and landscape, art in public places, environmental technologies, environmental education/communication, environmental stewardship and livable communities.

Following the awards program, a post event celebration will feature entertainment by The Preserve and a photo booth facilitating instant souvenir pictures of award winners and guests. Rooms are available at a Valley Forward discount rate of $99. For more details Click Here

ANNUAL LUNCHEON: SAVE THE DATE
Richard Louv, a futurist and journalist focusing on nature, family and community, will deliver keynote remarks at Valley Forward’s 40th Annual Luncheon.  Louv chairs the Children & Nature Network, an organization helping to build an international movement to connect children with nature. His most recent book The Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder has stimulated a national conversation about the future relationship between children and nature.

Louv is an especially appropriate 40th anniversary speaker for Valley Forward, which has historically advocated for desert preservation and connections with nature. He also serves as honorary co-chair of The National Forum on Children and Nature. In 2008, he was awarded the Audubon Medal by the National Audubon Society and the Paul K. Petzoldt Award from the Wilderness Education Association. You won’t want to miss this exciting program - stay tuned for more details and mark you calendars to attend!

PRESIDENT'S COLUMN:
PROMOTE OUR PARTNERSHIP
AN ASSOCIATION TO MAKE YOU PROUD!

It’s only half over and we’ve done more in our 40th anniversary year than in any other prior!  You should be proud of our impressive list of accomplishments and that you’re an integral part of helping to enhance the environmental sustainability of our Valley communities. Toward that end, we invite you to tout your membership in Valley Forward by featuring our logo in your communications materials.

We’ve even created a Branding & Identity Guide that covers the most common topics regarding the use of our logo for member-created communications.  We hope you’ll consider featuring your association with us wherever appropriate.

Simply contact us at (602) 240-2408 to request a copy of our member acceptance agreement to begin including the logo below, developed specifically for member usage, in your marketing materials.

We’ve achieved a lot in this milestone year and there’s more to come, as we plan to rollout a blog on our web site next month, along with a photo gallery and a monthly calendar of events that will enable members to preview all that we’re doing at a glance.

Thanks for your involvement in our many programs – from tree-plantings to educational forums featuring nationally recognized speakers – to advocating for a regional trails system, renewable energy, water conservation and transportation alternatives to the automobile. We appreciate your voice for balance.

WATER EFFICIENCY LEADERS: Call for Submittals

In our unique desert environment, water is our lifeline to sustainability and growth. The Valley's secure water future is the result of over 100 years of visionary planning. It's clear, however, that while we lead the Southwest in managing water supplies, we want to do a better job of communicating our efforts.

That’s why Valley Forward Association’s Water Committee wants to promote what Valley businesses are doing to be as water efficient as possible and showcase those who are providing leadership and innovation in water efficient practices. JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT!

Valley Forward’s “Just For The Fun of It” mixer featured vegan appetizers, cocktails and networking. The second mixer of the year was held in May in partnership with the Society of Marketing Professional Services and focused on a “Healthy Environment – Healthy Economy,” Valley Forward’s 2009 theme. Hosted by Hoskin Ryan, the event drew nearly 300 business and community leaders and featured a host of exhibits, including free range chickens!

MEMBER FEATURE:
The Phoenix Philanthropy Group

When Laurel Kimball and her colleagues at The Phoenix Philanthropy Group talk about “sustainability,” they are not talking about the natural environment.  As fundraising consultants, the Group advises non-profit organizations worldwide on the most effective ways to ensure that each client has the financial resources and community support needed to sustain the organization while achieving its mission and impacting the greater good.
Kimball serves on the Valley Forward Board of Directors, is the president of a small consulting firm, The Greenleaf Group and a principal at The Phoenix Philanthropy Group, a group of consultants headed by President Richard Tollefson.

“We pride ourselves on providing customized services that advance our clients’ missions and enhance the quality of life in our communities,” says Kimball. As chair of Valley Forward’s Planning for the Future Task Force for the last 18 months, Kimball has been helping VFA to become more sustainable by diversifying its funding sources.
